Spring Cleaning with Libman {Giveaway}

May 3, 2018 By Fareen 46 Comments

Disclosure – Libman has sponsored this post but all opinions are my own.

It’s May and it’s finally feeling like Spring. Didn’t that feel like the longest Winter ever?

This nicer weather means it’s probably time to get some spring cleaning done.  The Libman company, a 122 year old manufacturer of cleaning products, offers some tips to help you make the most of spring cleaning time and resources.

Libman

  1. To clean your shower surrounds without getting your hands wet, dip your Wonder Mop into a solution of 1/2 cup of vinegar, 1 cup of clear ammonia, and 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 gallon of warm water. After cleaning, rinse with warm water.
  2. Use a vent brush to clean out the track of your sliding glass door.
  3. Spring cleaning is made easier if you fill your sink with 1 cup of ammonia to approximately one gallon of water. Dip in your very clean sponge mop, remove all excess solution, and then mop your walls. This removes cigarette smoke stain, natural gas film, and even propane stains with ease. No rinsing is required if you keep the mop dry enough.
  4. To clean the smoky, burnt on residue from the glass doors on your fireplace or wood burning stove: Dip a damp paper towel in ashes and use them to clean the glass. You can also use the ashes from your fireplace to clean the glass window on a gas grill.
  5. A kitchen brush is useful in cleaning baseboard radiator fins. The bristles are soft enough not to damage the delicate fins yet sturdy enough to scrub away any compacted dust. The short handle allows the user to get around the center radiator pipe to clean back and underneath areas.
  6. Take the glass light bulb covers off ceiling fans and chandeliers and stick them in the dishwasher. They come out sparkling clean and it’s less work for your tired hands.
  7. To get kids to help with the bathroom clean-up, have them clean the sink and tub with baking soda and vinegar. The kids love the fizzing and it gets the sink and tub sparkling clean.
  8. Use a 18” Libman Multi-Surface Push Broom as a large scrub brush to scrub both high and low areas of aluminum or vinyl siding.
  9. When you encounter rust rings or stains left behind by appliances on your cushioned no-wax floor, gently scrub with a solution of cola and coarse salt. Rinse thoroughly. It effectively removes the rust without ruining the shine.
  10. Clean out wading pools and play equipment with a Libman mop and a solution of 1/4 cup hand dishwashing soap and 1-gallon of water. Rinse off, and let the fun begin.

Libman products are great for helping with spring cleaning. We actually have been using Libman products for years and have been impressed with the quality. Libman products can be found in Canada at Canadian Tire and Home Depot.

Spring cleaning means cleaning everything - purging & organizing closets/cupboards, wiping down walls, washing windows, cleaning all ceiling lights, wiping out kitchen cupboards...the works! Takes a few weeks to do.

I do a big declutter then a deep clean, making sure every surface in the house has been washed. It usually takes me a few weeks because I take my time focusing on one area at a time.

I can no longer to a big spring clean like I used to, so each day I clean a drawer or shelf etc. It is just a year round daily project for me. My hubby is helpful with cleaning the windows and getting into areas I can't reach like the top cupboards.

I really try to declutter and deep clean throughout the year not just in springtime. But, we do reorganize the mudroom, clean the windows and go through clothes as part of our spring tidying-up.

This year, not much other than regular upkeep. We lost everything in the fall, so started from scratch this year so no real sorting needed, just regular cleaning and upkeep.

It seems like I am washing everything normally just dusted. We wash walls, windows, ceilings, and the bigger furniture gets moved to clean their back end and underneath them. Not to mentioning cleaning out crawl spaces basements and attics. We also go through all our boxes. It seems like moving things from one room to another.
