Chimichurri Sauce

September 17, 2018 By Fareen Leave a Comment

Garlicky and packed with flavour, this chimichurri sauce is a great way to use up parsley and perfect with steak and chicken.

Who has an abundance of parsley they need to use up from their garden? With the recent cold we have experienced, I harvested a lot of parsley and was looking for ways to use it.

Since we were having steak for dinner, my mind naturally went to a sauce that I could serve with it. As most of you know, I am all about the sauces and dips. All the condiments in my fridge are a testament to that.

Steak Bites with Sesame Steak Sauce

September 9, 2018 By Fareen 11 Comments

One of our favourite sauces has to be the steak sauce from Japanese restaurants. This is sesame steak sauce is simple to make at home and enjoy with easy to make steak bites.

Those who know me know I can’t resist a good dip. It doesn’t matter how tasty the food is on it’s own, if there’s a tasty dip to go along side it, I can’t resist. Q is the same way. When he first tried the sesame steak sauce at a restaurant, he was hooked. He’s been asking for a while to recreate it at home.

oven baked crispy chicken wings

January 14, 2016 By Fareen Leave a Comment

I’m a sucker for chicken wings. The crispier and saucier, the better. They are the perfect appetizer (no cutlery!), take very little prep time and a great vehicle for some tasty sauce.

For anyone who tries these crispy wings, they won’t even
know that they are baked! They are super easy to prepare, just throw a few things together and throw them in the oven. Place wings in a bowl, add some corn starch, salt and pepper until the wings are coated. Place on a greased cookie sheet and then spray with some cooking spray. Cook at 375 degrees until cooked. For about ten wings, I added a couple tablespoons of corn starch. The wings baked for approximately 45 minutes.

Once the wings are done, sprinkle some salt and eat as is or toss them in your favourite sauce. Gochujang are Q’s favourite so I tossed the wings in some bibimbap sauce – so so good!

cauliflower alfredo sauce

February 3, 2014 By Fareen 2 Comments

The other day, on Facebook, I noticed a recipe for cauliflower alfredo sauce. I was intrigued and knew I had to try it. Cauliflower seems to be the “it” vegetable lately, transforming into a variety of things like “bread” sticks and pizza crusts.

This sauce is super easy to make. In a blender, just whiz together the cauliflower, the water that it was cooked in, some garlic that’s been cooked in butter and a little bit of milk and you have a creamy, delicious sauce. I used a lactose-free milk so that the sauce could be enjoyed by everyone.

Top the pasta and sauce with some cheese and elevate the dish even further with a drizzle of truffle oil. So divine! It’s a perfect dish for Meatless Monday or with some chicken or shrimp.

Cauliflower Alfredo Sauce

1/2 head cauliflower
4 cloves garlic, or 2 tsp minced
butter
salt
pepper
1/4 cup milk

Saute the minced garlic in butter over low heat. Cook for several minutes until garlic is soft and fragrant.

Bring water to a boil in a large pot.Add the cauliflower and cook for approximately 10 minutes or until the cauliflower is tender. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the cauliflower to the blender. Add 1 cup of the cooking liquid, the garlic and butter, salt, pepper and milk and puree until smooth.
