Nutella lovers rejoice! This Nutella latte is super easy to make at home. Cozy up with a cup and a good book and you have the perfect day.

Snow in September. Living in Alberta, this is definitely nothing to be surprised about. Snow in the summer, chinooks in the winter – it’s what we deal with every year. But, with the beautiful hot weather we had this summer, I didn’t think the snow would come so soon.

Nutella Latte

My love for Nutella is no secret. It’s delicious in brownies, ice cream, cookies….and lattes! This cozy drink is super easy to make.

slushy watermelon limeade

August 2, 2016 By Fareen Leave a Comment

After a day out in the sun, we needed something to cool us down. This watermelon limeade is cool and refreshing and only two ingredients!

During the summer, we always have watermelon chilling in the fridge. I dumped that in the blender and made a beautiful ruby juice. It did need some tang and the concentrated limeade made the best addition. This was blended with enough ice to make the perfect slushy summer treat.

Slushy Watermelon Limeade

3 cups watermelon juice (blended watermelon)
1 cup ice
1 limeade concentrate – 295mL can

In a blender, combine the blended watermelon, ice and the frozen limeade concentrate. Blend. Enjoy!

how to make the perfect cup of chai

June 10, 2016 By Fareen 24 Comments

Without a doubt, my mom makes the best chai. Sure, you may think I’m biased, but I’m not the only one who thinks so. In fact, when we go to other people’s houses, she is in charge of making the tea.

Everyone has their own way of making chai. Some stick to the basics – water, tea bags and you’re done. Others use spices ranging from fennel, cinnamon, cardamom and even ginger. My mom keeps it simple.  To make tea her way, you need tea bags, cardamom and evaporated milk.

To make two cups of chai, take 2 cups of water along with 1 tea bag and place in a pot. Take 1 cardamom pod and open up the shell a little bit. Bring these ingredients to a boil. Once boiling, add 1/3 cup of evaporated milk and let the tea simmer for a little while. I think this simmering is key to making a fantastic cup of chai. My mom doesn’t add sugar to the pot, rather customizing it for each person since the amount is such a personal thing. If you prefer to add sugar to the whole pot, you can add it when you add the milk. Mom always strains the tea, whether using loose leaf or bag, ensuring the perfect creamy cuppa.

Ever since she discovered Tea India, my mom won’t use any other brand. She says its a nice strong tea and the flavour is one that can’t compare to others. They have a variety of flavours from Orange Pekoe, Masala, Cardamom and Ginger. They offer their teas in both loose leaf form as well as tea bags.

Want to try Tea India for yourself? You can win a Tea India mug with a couple samples of their loose leaf tea. Let me know how you like your tea – black, milky, iced, in latte form. Leave a comment below, or connect with me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Contest closes Saturday, June 18th, 2016.

strawberry burst

April 20, 2016 By Fareen 1 Comment

It has been an amazing April so far while we have enjoyed an early summer. In fact, we broke a 100 year old record yesterday with temperatures climbing to 28 degrees! Needless to say, most people were outside, enjoying the patios or having drinks on their decks. While we bbq’d up some jerk chicken and lamb chops, we enjoyed this refreshing drink – strawberry burst!

This is the perfect drink to cool off on a hot day and great for parties. It’s nice to have some fun drinks for those that don’t drink alcohol or for the responsible DDs.

Fill your glass with ice and Sprite, or your favourite lemon-lime soda, add 3 TB of crushed strawberries and a squeeze of lime. Cheers!
