This post is my submission for the Mushrooms Appetizer Spotlight Contest which is open to members of Food Bloggers of Canada. The contest is sponsored by Mushrooms Canada for a chance to win 1 Full Conference Pass to FBC 2017.
Summer days for us in Canada mean we are usually outside, grilling our food, and enjoying time with friends and family. We try to make the most of our short summers, so we try to cook as may meals on the bbq as we can.
Anyone who knows me know that I love appetizers and could eat a whole meal of them. We have done a few appetizer parties and they have always been a hit. It’s always fun to come up with the perfect bite so I loved that this contest meant coming up with an appetizer that showcased mushrooms. These mushroom jalapeno poppers are filling and pack a punch.

A couple months ago, hubby and I escaped to Spain for a few days. It was a whirlwind trip that I still need to share with you. Soon. Of course we had lots of tapas, loving the little bites.
One item that we loved was from Ultramarinos where we had gone for dinner our last night. We had the eggplant fritters with honey and lime and were surprised by how great the flavours worked together.

Disclosure: I was provided tickets for my family to visit the Legoland Discovery Centre but all opinions are my own.
My family and I headed East to spend some time with family in Toronto and celebrate Canada in Ottawa. The whole time we were there, it rained. So what do you do when you have kids that need to get out and play? Head on over to the Legoland Discovery Centre in Vaughn.
The Legoland Discovery Centre is very different from the Legolands in the US. This was an indoor playground and exactly what we needed to escape the rain.

I can’t believe the weather we have been having lately. It has been HOT! It’s been a bit unbearable but it’s much better than the snow that seems to stay around forever. The only thing to do is be grateful and embrace it.
The best way to beat the heat is with something cold and refreshing. Sparkling lemonade is always my go-to. I keep my fridge stocked with a couple things that make having a glass anytime easy and quick – simple syrup and fresh lemon juice. Make it even more special by muddling in some mint and you’ve got yourself something delicious to cool you down.

A couple weeks ago, the kids and I checked out the newest Via Cibo on 14th Street in Calgary. Known for Italian Street Food, Via Cibo serves authentic food using fresh, local ingredients.
Located a couple blocks from 17th Avenue, the place was quite large and had parking. A huge bonus when visiting a restaurant downtown during peak times. When we walked in, right away you notice the open kitchen where you can see your dishes being made.
Give me some good fries with a great dip and I am happy. The kids are the same so naturally we had to order the Tuscan Fries. The fries were topped with rosemary, sea salt and truffle oil and finished off with some Grana Padana cheese. They were so good and perfect to munch on while we caught up on our day.

I can’t believe I still haven’t shared details about the amazing dinner I had last month at Charcut. I had dinner seated between Chef Mark McEwan and Chef Connie DeSousa, both of Top Chef fame. Seriously.
The event was put on by Stoneleigh, a wine from the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Through their partnership with Chef Mark McEwan, they are marrying the best of what both Canada and New Zealand have to offer.
