A couple weeks ago, the kids and I checked out the newest Via Cibo on 14th Street in Calgary. Known for Italian Street Food, Via Cibo serves authentic food using fresh, local ingredients.
Located a couple blocks from 17th Avenue, the place was quite large and had parking. A huge bonus when visiting a restaurant downtown during peak times. When we walked in, right away you notice the open kitchen where you can see your dishes being made.
Give me some good fries with a great dip and I am happy. The kids are the same so naturally we had to order the Tuscan Fries. The fries were topped with rosemary, sea salt and truffle oil and finished off with some Grana Padana cheese. They were so good and perfect to munch on while we caught up on our day.

When Famoso asked us to check out their new Spring menu, we jumped at the chance. We love their pizzas and enjoy all they have to offer. The family and I headed to the Mackenzie Towne location for dinner and while we perused the menu, the kids got to play with pizza dough. What a fun idea!
We started our meal with the Blackberry and Goat Cheese Salad. This is a seasonal salad that is back for the Spring. The mixed field greens with arugula and blackberries was topped with candied pecans and a blackberry vinaigrette. This salad just popped with the addition of the mint which really stood out and brought a freshness to the vibrant salad. We would highly recommend this!

It’s no secret that my family loves beef. Roasted, grilled, stewed, we devour it in any form. Even the pickiest eater will make an exception when it comes to beef. I was really excited to take part in the #RethinkBeef campaign, as it was a natural fit for me and my family. Ten food bloggers from around the country were invited to participate in the campaign to showcase diverse beef recipe options influenced by global cuisine.

A couple of weeks ago, my mom and I checked out The Curry Leaf, a recently opened South Indian restaurant located in Castleridge. My experience with South Indian food has always been with dosas but we were in for quite a treat.
We started our meal with some appetizers. tried the 14 Mini Idly Sambar, bite sized rice and lentil cakes that are steamed and served with a flavourful sambar. We also tried the Methu Vada, fried lentil doughnuts, and Chicken 65. The boneless chicken was marinated in south indian spice and fried – so delicious!

It’s Superbowl weekend! A time for sports for some or just hanging out with friends for others. At any case, it’s a great reason for a party. Naturally, you’re going to want something flavourful and delicious to eat! These Banh Mi Sliders are perfect to add to your party menu!
Banh Mi, aka known as Vietnamese subs, are one of my favourite things! Flavourful meat, with pickled carrots, cucumbers and onions on a crusty roll, the sandwiches are too good to resist.

On a recent trip to Vegas, while waiting for our flight back, I enjoyed some broccoli and cheddar soup. It had been a long time since I had that type of soup and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite. I have stayed away from making too many cheesy things since it can’t be enjoyed by all of us but lately there are some great lactose-free cheese options. Since broccoli is one of the vegetables that my kids will actually eat, I thought this was something I really wanted to try at home.
I made this soup last month and it was a keeper. The cheesy broth with chunks of broccoli was tasty and comforting. This paired deliciously with the homemade cheddar crackers – there’s no such thing as too much cheese, right? This will definitely be keeping us warm during those cold days of Fall and Winter.
I’m happy to be participating in the Canadian Food Creatives Autumn Soup Collaboration. Thanks so much to Diana for hosting! Check out all the fabulous recipes and see this recipe below.

Broccoli and Cheddar Soup
Oil or butter
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk
2 cups broth
1 small broccoli, chopped
2 1/2 cups Cheddar cheese
salt
pepper
In a pot, heat some oil and saute the onion until translucent. Add some more oil or butter and cook the flour. Whisk the milk into the flour, then the broth, stirring constantly to make sure there are no lumps. Let the broth mixture cook for ten minutes. Add the broccoli and cook until the florets until tender. Stir in the cheese and season with salt and pepper. Serve with crackers or bread.
It’s getting cold. As much as I want to hold on to summer, there’s no denying the chill in the air. Reports of snow on it’s way make me want to get cozy and enjoy comfort foods like steaming hot soup.
What goes great with soup? Crackers! Bowls of delicious broth topped with buttery cheddar crackers. Yes please! These crackers are topped with nigella seeds giving it an extra burst of flavour. Not only are these crackers super easy to make, they are great on soup, a nice addition to any charcuterie board and they make the perfect snack!
Cheddar Crackers
1 cup flour
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
4 TB butter
4 TB cold water
1 TB nigella seeds
In a food processor, pulse the flour and the butter. Add the cheese and pulse again. Add the water one tablespoon at a time until the dough forms into a ball. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for half an hour. This will make the dough easy to roll. Roll the dough, sprinkle the nigella seeds and roll again. This will allow the seeds to stick right to the dough. Cut into squares, or use a cookie cutter for your desired shape. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes.
Just a couple more days before Q heads back to school. Although Q loves sandwiches, it’s not something he wants to eat everyday. We came up with a list of some of his favourite sandwich-free lunches. I tried to get quesadillas on the list but he insisted that they were considered a sandwich!
We try to incorporate some fruits or veggies, like cucumbers, apples, or melons. We also try to incorporate a treat, like cookies, popcorn or raisins.
Crackers, cheese and beef sausages are always a hit! The kids can eat them separately to stacked together.
We love tacos around here so these taco bowls are always well received. Just form a soft taco around a bowl and bake at 350 for about 10 minutes until it crisps up and holds its shape. You can fill these bowls with seasoned beef, salsa and cheese.
We all love pizza but sometimes it’s just not what Q wants to take for lunch. Get delicious pizza flavour in these pizza rolls. Just use packaged crescent rolls, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce, cover with cheese and roll them up. These are great for breakfast too!
Savoury pies are another idea for those not wanting a sandwich. These can be meat pies, sausage rolls and even those delicious Jamaican beef patties!
Thermoses are a great way for kids to take some hot food for lunch. Hot chili on a cool day always hits the spot. Pack them with some cheese and corn chips to top it with.
